Susanne M Dahl – 5 stars on Amazon – Donna Mebane is a wonderful storyteller and writer! I read this book cover to cover without putting it down. I know Donna and the story of Emma’s life. Donna brings Emma to life in the AFTER giving readers who have lost a loved one hope and comfort. Whether you’ve lost a child, partner, parent or known someone who has, this is a comforting must read.
On the first anniversary of Emma’s death, we organized the 2012 Emma Memorial FUN-Run (with a distinct emphasis on “FUN”), and 150 or so joined us on Sunday, July 8, at Peck Farm Park in Geneva for a REALLY FUN event, under the circumstances.
We asked Emma to be in charge of the weather and, in characteristic (last-minute) style, she came through with shining stars. On Saturday night, after a record-breaking heat wave, the temperature dropped some 30 degrees and, by Sunday morning, it was nothing short of glorious. The sun shone bright on this glorious prairie setting.
All in all, it was a melancholy milestone that everyone seemed to power through, with the aid of sun shining, fun running, neon green bracelets glo-ing, starshine tats, Emma bingo, blasting bullhorn, fancy fajitas, and music from an Empty Can … oh, yeah, and lots of good connecting among lots of good folks and, most of all, the sharing of lots of memorable Emma moments. We also raised almost $4,000 in support of the Geneva High School graphic arts scholarship that is being given in Emma’s name.
